How do tattoos fade? Should they fade at all?

I've heard tattoos shouldn't fade, if they're done properly, and taken time over…kind of like the resolution on a printer, if you stick it on fast draft you'll get a faded print, but on photo best you'll get a vivid image….

So any experienced people in the know out there?

Tanning can make a tattoo fade. So if you tan, just put sunscreen on your tattoo. I don't know of anything else though.

a tattoo will fade with age and also it depends on what they hav told you to put on it wen u first had it done. never use savlon (it draws the colour out) moiturisers can also draw colour out and so can tanning. you hav to keep it covered from the sun or put sun cream on it.

They fade over the course of many years, but mostly due to exposure to sunlight. If kept covered by sleeves etc. most of the time they should stay as dark as when you got them just about. You can always go and get it darkened when that happens though

Tattoos fade when exposed to UV light quite a lot, I own a tanning salon in London and I'm also tattooed so always keep mine covered with wet flannels if I go on a bed.

My tattoos were done well, but all tattoos will fade eventually

My tattoo artist told me that they do fade over time, especially if they're bright colors & are exposed to the sun a lot.

I have a pink butterfly tatt on my lower back, I live in Florida & I'm outside a lot. I've had my tatt for almost 5 years & I just make sure to always have a high SPF on. So far, no fading & my pink ink is just as obvious as the black outline!

I am not really getting your resolution reference, but they do fade yes. But not nearly as much as just a few years ago. The newer inks last a lot longer and stay a lot truer, especially the newer black inks. I have one with that sort of ink and the blacks stayed black almost 10 years later.

they will fade over time no matter what. some fade more than others depending on how well they do the tattoo. tattoo ink is injected into the dermis layer of the skin. the epidermis the the outer most layer and the layer that sheds the most. if they do not put the ink deep enough the tattoo will really fade because you are constantly shedding skin cells.
